On April 22, 2025, the latest version of IBM Planning Analytics Workspace was released: version 2.0.103 (or 2.1.10). With this update, IBM brings many exciting enhancements in the areas of reporting, modeling and administration that make working with Planning Analytics even more efficient and flexible. We summarize the most important new features for you:

Improvements in the Books and Reporting area

1. New Data Explorer (cloud version only)

With the new Data Explorer, users can make natural language queries, such as: “Show net profit by region, month by month”. The AI-supported assistance function then suggests suitable views from the TM1 data – including explanations. These views can be inserted directly into a book or customized. Prerequisite: The Planning Analytics AI Assistant add-on.

2. Hierarchy formatting in the Format Manager

A new “Hierarchy” tab enables consistent formatting across entire hierarchies. This improves the readability and visual consistency of your reports.

3. More control over colors and design

Users can define different background and font colors for data cells and headers – ideal for visually highlighting important information.

4. Extended parameter control for TI processes

Parameters can now be transferred to action buttons either as a member name or unique name. Another new feature is the “Set List” control type, which can be used to transfer named subsets to processes – for significantly more flexibility.

Innovations in the area of modeling

1. More flexible display when writing rules

In the workbench settings, you can now choose whether sheet elements should be displayed compactly or with a complete hierarchy path. This helps to prioritize clarity or context as required.

2. Leaf-to-consolidated transformation in the Dimension Editor

A leaf member can now be changed to a consolidated type – without having to assign child elements first. This makes it much easier to restructure dimensions.

3. Improved shortcut functionality

Shortcuts can now be created not only for websheets and views, but also for processes, chores, subsets and more. Everything is stored clearly in the Applications folder – particularly helpful for large or shared models.

4. Making baseline forecasts more flexible

Users can now overwrite the default context members themselves when creating forecasts. This saves administration work and offers users more autonomy.

5. New sorting functions

In the File Manager and Drive Explorer, files can now be sorted by name, last modified date, type or size – ideal for large databases.

Extensions in the administration area

Proactive system monitoring

Administrators working with TM1 Database 12 can now define their own threshold values for memory and CPU utilization. Automatic notifications are triggered if thresholds are exceeded, so that performance problems can be detected and rectified at an early stage.

Conclusion:

The 2.0.103 update of IBM Planning Analytics Workspace brings many practical innovations that make Planning Analytics even more powerful. Particularly noteworthy are the AI-supported queries in reporting, the improved flexibility when modeling dimensions and the new options for proactive system monitoring.
